Drugbot
Drugbot is a new digital service providing accurate, accessible, and non-judgemental drug education through an artificial intelligence chatbot.
What is Drugbot?
Delivered by social justice charity Cranstoun, Drugbot can be accessed anonymously online 24/7 by individuals seeking information, or by professionals supporting others.
The free chatbot, developed by technology partners Substancy, is designed to help guide safer, more informed decisions around substance use, equipping people who use drugs with the knowledge they need to stay safe and make informed choices.
Drugbot is available for people aged 18 and up and is available at drugbot.cranstoun.org
Drugbot is currently available in the UK. We’re actively working on a phased rollout to bring access to additional regions soon. Stay tuned for updates as we expand availability.
What can Drugbot do?
Drugbot can take basic and complex questions about drugs through a text-based, online conversation and immediately provide accurate and essential information to ensure that if people are using drugs, that they are reducing the risks to themselves and others.
Drugbot has access to a curated database from reputable sources, minimising misinformation and maximising accurate advice. The chatbot also provides links to the original sources during the conversation so people can do further research if they would like.
Developers are pleased with the high levels of accuracy and detailed responses to more than 20,000 questions during the pilot testing period, with responses rigorously checked and assessed by experts.
The bot is continually learning and improving, and feedback from people using the service will help to shape Drugbot moving forward. It can provide information on dosage, preparation, safety and aftercare, all essential to safer behaviours and reducing the harm of drugs.
