Cranstoun welcomes today’s announcement that the government is to increase investment into the drug and alcohol sector, for the first time in 15 years. It is good news for the sector and for the people who use our services. Whilst it does not redress the balance of sustained funding cuts since 2012, it will assist in our continued mission to provide exceptional service provision. We are particularly encouraged that there is an emphasis on providing treatment and recovery opportunities for those people engaged with the criminal justice system. Whilst this only provides one year of funding, we hope that it is a statement of intent from the government that the forthcoming release of the Dame Carol Black report will be backed up by increased resources in next year’s spending review. As we get further information on the process for allocation and distribution, we will work collaboratively with our commissioners to take projects forward that will best support the needs of our service users – to reduce harm and increase safety.
