“I have really loved volunteering at Here4YOUth in Dudley.
I have been extremely lucky to learn from the friendly team and gain knowledge in an area that I am really interested in. I am currently at university studying Sociology where I learn about how society shapes our individual identity, and how systems in society impact the experiences we have throughout life. Following the interests from my degree, my time at Here4YOUth has been valuable as it has allowed me to put what I have been learning at university into the context of the real world.
As well as learning, a highlight of my volunteering experience has been interacting with the young people within their appointments and within the activity classes. Growing up, I loved being creative and enjoyed arts and crafts activities in my spare time. It was great to interact with the young people through this shared interest in a relaxed environment where they were comfortable.
I have had access to a unique perspective as a volunteer. I have been able to see the service from the position of the young people who utilise the service and have learnt what happens behind the scenes to run the service. I have really enjoyed this diverse aspect to my volunteering role, as it has allowed me to really get to grips with what Here4YOUth is about and what they provide for the young people in Dudley.”
